A TikTok star’s video posted to the social network after he was forced to wash the toilets of a Nigerian governor has prompted a court to rule the public figure caned for defaming him.
Graphic footage shows the TikTok star, called Chike, being caned by police as he is led out of court.
The incident, described as barbaric and outrageous by a judge, comes two days after the star was filmed being told to clean toilets at the Garkida Governor of Kaduna state.
On Tuesday morning the star, who was wearing a striped shirt, was ordered to stand in front of the governor’s office to get his punishment.
The judge, Mr Justice Adoke Fani, said the incident had become a symbol of the “evil” government of President Muhammadu Buhari. “The video is a new low to show the true character of the evil regime in Buhari,” Mr Justice Fani said.
Chike, a former rapper who is considered one of the biggest stars in the Nigerian television industry, was filmed during the punishment session at the Garkida jail.
In the video he is shown being forced to wash the toilets of the governor’s office and is subsequently ordered to stand in the presence of the governor.

The video has gone viral on social media and has been viewed nearly five million times.
An Instagram account belonging to Chike, titled ‘Nigeria Boy’, posted a photograph of the star on Tuesday morning while he was being taken out of court.
Nigerian newspapers have been criticised for their coverage of the incident and it emerged that the reporter accompanying Chike refused to comment on how he had reacted to the caning.
