An illegal dragster race was interrupted by gunfire just after midnight on the city’s South Side. The two men killed and a woman wounded were standing next to two cars that were being dragster. The men in the two cars were hit in the back of the head. One had been thrown from the car.

A 38-year-old man died at the scene. His name was not released. A 26-year-old woman who also was in the car was in critical condition. She was shot in the leg. Her name was not released, either.

Witnesses to the gunfire, who did not want their names used, say the suspect opened fire on the two men and the woman who was hit before fleeing the scene.

The man who died was a South Sider who worked for a company that leases offices in the community, and was part-owner of a car dealership there.

A second man who was shot was in his 20s, and was at a nearby McDonald’s for a quick bite. He was hit in the arm but not seriously hurt.

Police have not said whether the two men were dragsters or race cars.

A spokesperson for the Chicago Police Department said the suspect was last seen walking down a path in the alley next to the parking garage where the street race took place.

Police also did not say what kind of race the men were racing. Two cars with racing stickers were being towed away from the scene in front of the parking garage where the shooting occurred.

They were racing a street car that was stolen from a dealership that is located directly across from the intersection where the shooting occurred.

An officer, after speaking with witnesses to the shooting, said they told him that the suspect had walked back down the alley to get the car.

The man who was killed was a South Sider who works in the community as a manager at a car dealership and owns a dragster.

The 27-year-old man who was shot was standing next to the car, driving it in reverse. He was hit in the back of the head with a shot that was fired from the passenger seat, according to police.
