Toronto relaxes COVID-19 rink rules as winter activities move ‘toward normal’

The City of Toronto is relaxing its COVID-19 (Coronavirus) ice rink health guidelines to help encourage more winter sports on the city’s ice surfaces.

The city said it will review its existing health advisory notices, which include recommendations about using public and private outdoor ice, and will make any necessary adjustments.

“The city is working to implement a more flexible and proactive approach to this difficult time,” said Melissa Fedi, general manager of the City of Toronto’s Municipal Licenses and Inspections Department.

“We will continue to work with our partners and the community to provide safe, appropriate and enjoyable indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities for Toronto residents,” she said.

The province has said it will provide a rebate of up to $2,000 for any Toronto city residents who participate in an outdoor rink this season and are using hand sanitizer.
