‘When We Were Young’ music festival canceled Saturday due to high winds and heavy rain, organizers said.
A day after canceling the annual “When We Were Young” music festival in Gatineau, Que., organizers said Saturday they will not let a third year go by without a lineup announcement on Monday.
“The best is yet to come and we hope you will join us for the final edition of your favourite music festival,” organizers said in a statement. “It’s your favourite festival without the wind, rain and wind. The weather in Gatineau is unseasonably warm and sunny…a great time to visit our great city. As always, we will be back in time for the best of the festival.”
The first day of the event was pushed back from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning to avoid the possibility of rain and wind.
“We were pretty much expecting rain and wind on Saturday, but we also had some wind yesterday,” said Sylvain Roy, the head of the festival.
“Unfortunately, we had heavy rain yesterday and we have been expecting storms since yesterday afternoon, but it hasn’t developed into the level of force and intensity to get us to pull out.”
Roy said the decision to postpone the festival was made in consultation with festival promoters in the U.S.
Roy said he couldn’t talk about the stormy conditions with the American promoters of the festival, but he did say there would be a third weekend in the Gatineau area to enjoy the music.
Roy thanked festival patrons for understanding the postponement and said he hopes the remaining days will be even better for them.
“We are very grateful for your understanding and patience,” he said.
“We will be announcing our final lineup on Monday and are very excited to have everyone back at the festival in time for the final edition,” he said.
