Toronto Public Health vice-chair questions city’s COVID-19 policy
The Toronto Public Health is calling for a better plan for dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
The public health authority has identified 11 key areas of concern, including how and when to test and what should be used to contain the virus’ spread.
The agency said the public was also concerned about the safety of the public.
“To date, the vast majority of cases have been people who have had close contact with other people who have COVID-19, most commonly through community gatherings and family members,” Toronto Public Health said in a release Monday. The agency said testing and contact tracing “appear to have been effective in reducing the peak number of infections.”
Toronto Public Health said the agency also needs to “address how to safely implement physical distancing measures and the safety of those working in these spaces.”
The agency, with additional staff, has been monitoring COVID-19 cases since early April and issued recommendations to city officials and the city’s health and safety commission, a group that makes policy recommendations to the city.
The commission is scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss the recommendations and prepare for the expected increase in COVID-19 cases.
